Cannabis Manufacturing: Challenges and Opportunities

Cannabis has been a valuable crop for millennia with evidence of medical use dating back to Roman Empire, China, and ancient Egypt. Throughout history, humans had a conflicting relationship with the plant where valuable medical proprieties were accompanied by a long history of controversy.

In the past decade changes to regulations surrounding cannabis facilitated to exponential growth of the legal cannabis industry. As a result, liberalization of cannabis facilitated to more research on cannabis agronomy with the goal of validating practices utilized by legacy producers and advancing cannabis horticulture focused on secondary metabolite production.

Commercial cannabis production in controlled environments poses many challenges to producers operating within the legal framework as limited horticultural information is available due to long history of prohibition. Therefore, to meet national and international regulatory requirements produces need to optimize critical paraments within the manufacturing environment on a site-specific basis to reduce risks and optimize quality.
